The finals of the 18th "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Scientific Work Competition were recently held at Guizhou University. This renowned competition, co-hosted by prominent entities such as the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, China Association for Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, All-China Students’ Federation, and the Guizhou Provincial People's Government, attracted over a thousand participants, including influential figures like Hu Sheng, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League; Shi Guanghui, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee; and Deputy Governors Dong Jialu and Zhang Jingping.

Emphasizing the theme "Scientific and Technological Innovation for the Country," the event showcased the evolution of young students from competitors to entrepreneurs, underscoring the transformative impact of the "Challenge Cup" competitions over the past three decades in motivating young minds towards scientific innovation and national service. A highlight was Academician Yuan Yaxiang's inspiring speech, titled “Constant Endeavor to Reach New Heights”, which encouraged attendees to actively pursue personal and professional growth.

This year's competition, aligned with China's strategy to bolster science and technology, introduced a revamped format to boost student engagement and display cutting-edge innovations. The '1+1+2' framework consisted of the primary competition, the special “Leaderboard Challenge” competition, red-themed projects, and a 'black technology' exhibition. Drawing an unprecedented level of participation, with entries from over 2,000 universities, more than 400,000 projects, and involvement of 2.5 million students, this event marked a milestone in nurturing a spirit of scientific inquiry and innovation among the youth. The competition successfully integrated diverse elements, including red culture, technology, youth involvement, and regional characteristics of Guizhou.
